Alkaline Lifestyle

You may wonder “what the hey” is an alkaline lifestyle? Maybe you ARE familiar with it but don’t know the specifics.  I call it a lifestyle cuz it’s NOT a diet, it’s a way of life.  Alkaline living is getting a lot of press lately and a Google search yields pages and pages of results.  But thinking back just a year or two, no one even knew “what the hey” I was talking about.  Now there’s alkaline water in grocery stores-amazing!  So it’s high time we spread the word about how to live this lifestyle and how to enjoy delicious food while you’re at it.

It’s pretty simple, really.  Essentially the goal is to bring your body’s pH –acid versus alkaline– into balance by consuming a higher volume of alkaline foods and fluids.  Ideally 70% to 80% of each daily meal should be alkaline foods combined with 2-4 liters of alkalizing water thru the day.  Super hydrating daily with water and adding powdered greens is very energizing and flushes unwanted toxins and is a super way to flush fat cells too.  The 70-80% portion for alkaline foods is basically vegetables, mostly raw-some warmed, either whole or juiced and low sugar fruits.  The 20%-30% acidic balance can be made up of cool or cooked foods such as whole grains, seeds, nuts, legumes, proteins-plant or animal-preferably organic turkey or chicken and the sweeter fruits in moderation. Some Alkavorians do consume a little tiny bit of dairy and eggs, many do not. The least processed food possible is keyIn a nut shell, one could easily transition to this lifestyle diet just by increasing their raw greens or gently warmed veggies to 70-80% on your plate at lunch and dinner and fresh veggie juice in the morning.

An Alkaline balanced body is healthy, vibrant, and energetic, free of sickness and disease. An Acidic body is one that is degenerating, breaking down, showing a myriad of symptoms of ill health from the simplest form being a cold or a rash all the way to diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.  We all know 1-5 people or more that are ill or dying of these or many other terrible diseases that can be solved with a change in their lifestyle and diet.  High levels of stress, negative thoughts, lack of exercise and poor shallow breathing (which most of us do all day long) all play a key role in this lifestyle and are acid forming.  Changing your diet will improve your pH and reduce your symptoms to a certain degree, but you must also manage and balance these other pieces of the puzzle to reach optimal health.  The most amazing thing about this alkaline lifestyle is that it is measurable because it IS a science.  If you have a live blood analysis done by a trained microscopist (where you can see your blood cells actively moving on screen) before you begin this lifestyle change, after as little as 30 days, you will see a change in your blood cells and the fluid that they live in.  It is utterly astonishing to see the yeast, parasites, (we all have them to some degree if you eat meat), stress indicators, pre-cancerous crystals, and many other unhealthy organisms floating around in your blood and how they change or disappear with only a diet adjustment and further more, with a healthy lifestyle.

I see the trend toward alkalizing growing in leaps and bounds because there is such a great awareness of how SAD the typical North American diet is.  Made up largely of meat, dairy, sugars, alcohol, saturated fats, highly processed foods and caffeine, we have become a very sick nation looking for quick cures from pills.  With the ever increasing rate of grim diagnosis’s of disease that we are surrounded by, I believe many of us are at a cross road.  Change your Diet …..or Die. The number of books being published on healthy eating is at an all time high and many of them are slamming the typical diets that many of us thought were “healthy”!  Instead of maintaining what we thought was a healthy body we have created a hostile acidic environment within our body that now needs correcting before we develop disease or before we die from one we’ve just been diagnosed with.  The beauty is that you CAN reverse the negative effects of an unhealthy diet if you sincerely have the will to do so.

There’s no doubt about it, change what you eat and the way you live to more alkaline choices and your symptoms will diminish and slowly disappear.  I am living proof and so are many others who have even reversed cancer and are living a vibrant life, well into their late nineties with very little degeneration.  It’s really been more than a 100 years that this model of healthy living has been buried due to the mainstream medical model that has been blind to it but finally….. the awareness of how to live a life of health and well being, free of disease, is surfacing.  I challenge you to try it for 30 days and see how much you like the gain of energy and the positive changes that happen.  A food chart to help guide you, showing the value of alkalinity or acidity, is right here.

Where to Start and What to Avoid
Identifying WHY you want to alkalize is a good place to begin.  What’s your motivation?  Is there a pain strong enough to make you stick with it?  How badly do you want to be healthy?  Are you choosing this or is someone else?  Are you craving energy and vibrancy?  Aren’t we all?  Then give it a go for 30 days and see how you feel, see if you are addicted to the feeling?  You might be pleasantly surprised and change your life forever!  I did!  Forever, no lie!

So a good way to begin is to decide- would I choose cold turkey or a slow go?  Cold turkey if you are not chronically ill can do wonders and work out the toxins fast which means you may feel lousy until they flush thru and then you’ll be ready to change the world.  A slow go means less pain but slower gain.  Either way, you will be WAY better off than not doing anything different at all.

I recommend reading a few books before or while you begin because knowledge is POWER.  It will inspire you to keep on trucking and you will develop a lifestyle habit that you will become addicted to.  For further reading I recommend picking up a soft cover copy for under $10 of the pH Miracle by Dr. Robert O. Young.  As a scientist with over 40 years of research, exploring and uncovering he shares the steps to gain control of your health again.  Another recently published book that I am devouring is Crazy, Sexy, Diet by Kris Carr who is a cancer survivor who alkalized to heal and has brought together a wealth of knowledge thru her own experience and that of many health experts that will inspire you to take the plunge.

The following is a list of things to begin eliminating or reduce your consumption of.  After skimming the list it may seem to you like there’s nothing good left to bother eating but you’d be surprised.  If you haven’t looked at my recipe page then check it out cuz there’s some incredibly mouth watering ways to nourish your body that will leave you craving more and feeling more energetic after a meal than you ever have before.

Foods that Acidify:

  • Sugar
  • Dairy Products
  • Meat (aside from occasional cold water fish)
  • Caffeine
  • Tobacco
  • Wheat (aside from sprouts or wheat grass)
  • Fruit – needs to be eaten in moderation esp high sugar ones
  • Bad fats (saturated, trans fatty acids, hydrogenated)
  • Junk/ Processed foods
  • Fizzy drinks
  • Peanuts and Cashews
  • Pasta and White Rice
  • Condiments
  • Fermented Foods

If you really want to kick it up a notch the best way to kick the acid is a juice feast where you nourish and flush the body at the same time in order to alkalize and regenerate healthy new cells.  It’s possible to put you one year ahead in the healing process by beginning with a juice feast cleanse.  For the full details and recipes on a great way to jump start your alkaline journey see this post here.

All living things exist because of a balanced pH level.  In nature some “plant varieties” thrive in an alkaline soil where as others prefer a slightly acidic soil.  When these conditions are not ideal symptoms begin to occur.  Most inexperienced gardeners would head to the garden center and purchase a product recommended to cure the ailing plant and spray it on the leaves and the plant would perk up but shortly there after it needs another application.  However a well seasoned gardener knows that an adjustment to the soil in which the plant grows is what will improve the health of the plant.

Our bodies that are all identically designed to function as the “human variety” require the same pH balance and treatment.  The terrain in which our cells exist is the environment that must be pH balanced just as the roots of the plant growing in soil.  Our inner terrain is everything.  When it is out of kilter we are out of kilter.

If we can clean up our systems, pair it with a healthy outlook on life, manage our stress levels, and incorporate daily fitness we can experience optimal health and a life of longevity and vibrancy.  THIS is how we were meant to exist on this planet and we should settle for nothing less.

If you require an alkaline coach to make this shift possible, I get it.  If you are seriously ill it’s the best way back to health and I highly recommend you reach out for support and guidance on this journey.  It’s a life changing path and having a coach will bring greater success and a confidence that will drive you to become the healthy You that you deserve to be.

Please contact me for further info and references for Alkaline Coaching so I can guide you based on your needs and your geographic location. If you desire live blood analysis Google it for your area or contact me in case I can help you locate a qualified professional.

If you’ve made it to the bottom of my long winded message for alkalizing I congratulate your earnest desire to make a difference in your health and I promise I will inspire you with my passion for sharing weekly alkaline health information and deliciously beautiful recipes that will make you feel like a million bucks!

Hi Julie,

Ive been very interested in the kind of life style that you have described. I do have a few questions for you though. You mentioned fermented foods as one to avoid. Ive done some research on the healing properties of fermented teas like kombucha as well as apple cider vinegar. If I use these products regularly am I causing my body more harm than good?

Thanks for your help and blog!

Julie November 7, 2011 at 10:40 pm

Sarah, I tend to listen to Dr. Robert O. Young as I understand his philosophy of yeast, fungus and mold contributing to disease. I avoid all fermented foods for this reason as disease prevention. Occasionally it is impossible so I let it go esp. when out in a restaurant but as a rule I don’t eat them. Thanx for stopping by:)

Hi Julie,

I’m interested in the alkaline lifestyle, however, right now I suffer from muscle inflammation (which im sure will benefit from an alkaline lifestyle), degenerating disc in my lower back, and my knees pop and sometimes ache whenever I squat. While living an alkaline lifestyle, will the fruits and vegetables help with bone strengthening?

Julie November 13, 2011 at 10:43 pm

Dimonique, the alkaline lifestyle is basically an anti-inflammatory diet that will immensely help you and all of your symptoms if you are committed to making some adjustments to relieve your symptoms. Alkalizing would be sooo beneficial for you. I recommend hydrating really well with alkaline water and minerals. Drinking 3-4 liters of water with super greens and then 1 glass morning and night of the phor salts will work wonders for you. These will flush many toxins from your body, slowly providing relief, persistence is key. I would also guess that you are low in good omega oils thus the knee popping. I like Nutra Sea fish oils and take them generously in smoothies and salad dressings or by the spoonful. You can hardly over dose on these according to Dr. Robert O. Young and his pH Miracle book which is a really good book to read. You most certainly will strengthen bones if you eliminate dairy and replace it with volumes of leafy greens in salads, smoothies and green juices. Kale is very high in calcium and is full of chlorophyll which builds blood cells that build bone. Milk leaches calcium from our bones and is one of the leading causes of osteoporosis. Let me know if you need any further support, I’d be happy to help.

Sandra January 10, 2012 at 10:20 am

Hi Julie, my name is Sandra and I am 47 years old and for the past 10 years I have been increasing in a lot of joint pain, this past year it has increased to very chronic pain in the joints and now my feet are stiffing up and the pain to walk on them is getting horrible. Around 10 years ago I went to a vitamin shop where they had one of those Dr.’s called iridologists…and he told me that I had high acidity and that I had crystal deposits on my joints and that it would get worse in time if I didn’t take care of it….well I guess what he said has come to be, now I am in really bad shape. Anyway I have heard some things about this alkaline since then … But now my question is “Where do I start to get this PH balance on it’s way?” All help you can give would be immensely appreciated…. THANK YOU!

Julie January 12, 2012 at 12:51 am

Sandra, You’ve come to the right place in your life to realize that you can certainly find health again thru your diet and lifestyle.
I would suggest getting Dr. Robert O. Young’s Book The pH Miracle as well as think about doing a juice feast as per this post I did. He also outlines it more clearly in his book, this is rather my version. A juice feast is a good way to begin detoxing and cleansing. Depending on your particular health picture the detoxing can be extreme or you may feel cold or flu like symptoms, this is normal. I highly recommend consulting a nutritionist or naturopath if you have one you know of in your community who can gage and guide your success. I am still studying and can make generic suggestions only since I haven’t all your details and even then it’s best to have someone chart your progress especially because you have chronic symptomology. I need to say this so that you know you are following suggestions at your own risk. From my experience a juice feast has been fantastic for people with your symptoms but everyone is different, if you can consider this.
There is an alkaline food guide on the site to use as a reference for what to eat. If you can work toward a high proportion of alkaline foods upwards of 70,80 or 90% alkaline for disease states you will see improvement I’m sure. there are many recipes on the site here that are healthy and yummy. Avoid the treat recipes that have dates, or fruits as you want to avoid sugars even if they are from fruit.
Let me know if you have any further questions, but do pick up the book:) It will make so much more sense once you read his explanation and you will be more motivated once you are empowered with knowledge. Pls keep me posted on your progress. Psst. I’d also suggest a live blood analysis (to assess your current state of health and to monitor your progress back to optimal health based on what’s really going on in your body- you will be able to see the problems in your blood and monitor them) if you can find a practitioner in your neighbor hood as well as a hair analysis to measure your minerals-this is important for you especially cuz you need the right nutrients to correct your pain and crystals. All the best to you. I’m excited for your journey back to optimal health and I know it’s possible!! Pssst. Wheat grass will be your friend! It will help you immensely! Let me know if you can’t find practitioners in your area. I can try to help:)

Hi Julie!

Just came across this site now and am eager to read through more of your posts … first and foremost though, I suffer from Chronic Kidney Disease and have high blood pressure, which I am trying to reduce naturally to prevent my nephrologist from adding another med to my existing one. I am about to turn 40. Can you tell me if there is any reason I should avoid this diet with the CKD (or is is quite the opposite?!)? Many thanks, Molly

Julie February 12, 2012 at 11:26 pm

HI Molly, I truly believe that this alkaline diet will be helpful for you. I did a quick read about CKD and it’s like many other diseases- involves inflammation and an overly acidic nature in the body. Increasing your veggie intake of raw and steamed or lightly sauteed veggies will be very beneficial for CKD and High blood pressure as will eliminating dairy and reducing your consumption of meat and all animal products (sticking to organic meats of course) and filling in with plant proteins like avocados, hemp seeds, nuts and seeds and legumes or plant protein powders for smoothies as well as including a good dose of healthy omega oils, while avoiding high sodium foods and all processed foods. I found this link that suggests many veggies as being excellent for CKD so you are on the right track with an alkaline lifestyle. This other link http://www.davita.com/kidney-disease/diet-and-nutrition/lifestyle/top-15-healthy-foods-for-people-with-kidney-disease/e/5347 is very helpful for high blood pressure with lots of ideas for supplements and food http://www.preventivemedicineps.com/Cardio-Vascular-System/a-holistic-approach-to-treating-high-blood-pressure.htmlI believe that living an alkaline lifestyle and managing your stress and your thoughts effectively as well as exercising regularly is the key to every single disease, keeping it at bay or reversing it. I hope this helps and that you can improve your health with some dedicated focus on your diet and lifestyle. Please keep me posted:)

Molly J February 13, 2012 at 1:39 pm

Julie, I can’t tell you how I appreciate this extra mile you’ve gone for me. I’m looking forward to reading through the links and will indeed keep you posted … my next appointment with the kidney doctor is in one month’s time and I feel that the changes I’ve made recently (more whole foods, less red meat, more line caught fish etc) has already made a difference to how I feel on many levels. Next, and hardest steps for me, will be eliminating alcohol (white wine esp), cottage cheese, toast/crackers. But I know you are wishing me luck and I will get trawling through some recipes on this site. Many thanks again, you are super kind! Molly

Julie February 19, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Oh Molly, so glad you are starting to feel the difference. RE the wine, find yourself something you REALLY enjoy and have that on hand all the time. I love lots of lemon or lime in water or soda water and you can sweeten with stevia, add a few strawberries if you like. Also try raw almond butter on crisp cold celery, it does it for me every time! Let me know how your next appointment goes:)

Jessica March 21, 2012 at 9:55 pm

Hello,
Thank you for the information -it was very informative and detailed as to how i can begin to start living an alkaline lifestyle. I suffer from uveitis and VKH which is an autoimmune disease that in my case causes inflammation in my eyes. Can you please tell me if you have any past post or information or know of any other frequent visitors of the site that has what i have? I have been searching for a holistic approach and feel this would be the best and beneficial treatment for me right. I am currently on medications and have been told by doctors that i need to be on them for life and i really prefer not to. thank you and any additional information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Julie March 28, 2012 at 7:44 pm

Hi Jessica, I’ve peeked on Google a little to read about your situation but honestly don’t know a lot about it. What I do know that I have learned from Dr.Robert O. Young and thru my holistic nutrition studies is that the body has an innate ability to heal itself and will do it’s very best if we give it what it needs. I believe what it needs is for you to provide it with alkalinity thru whole foods and pure water while nurturing a healthy attitude and stress level. Any inflammation that you are experiencing will be minimized or eliminated which will certainly improve the symptoms. I would whole heartedly say that by embracing an alkaline lifestyle you will see improvements, I can’t say how much but I know your body will do it’s very best if you do your very best and you might even see miracles happen. Hope has to exist for a miracle to happen. Dr. Young says one disease is all disease and can be reversed with one cure. Alkalinity! It’s how our body was designed to function. If I were you I would certainly find a microscopist to do your live blood analysis so you can see your current picture and then monitor your changes and success. You’d be amazed at what is visible and how you can be guided with the right nutrients that may be out of balance in order to heal successfully. All my best to you and please, please keep me posted. I’d love to hear how you are doing and pls hollar with any other questions:) Cheers.

Molly J March 28, 2012 at 12:30 am

Hi Julie! So I had my follow up appointment yesterday with my Kidney Dr and was eager to let you know the results. He had the results of my 24 hr urine test up on his screen as I sat down and he simply asked me “So; what’s changed? What are you doing differently?” I told him about my diet changes, the fact that I had stopped drinking alcohol, had started exercising more and my resulting positive attitude because of all this. (Fact is, since all these changes I am feeling re connected to my intuition, which I had feared I was losing, and my deep sense of faith. The world is a sunnier place. A cloud has lifted. And, personally, I am sure this has as much to do with the healing process as the physical changes.) He told me the urine test showed I was barely spilling any protein and that my sodium level was very low. That he was extremely happy with these results and that I didn’t need another med! I was amazed. He could literally SEE the changes on screen. My body told him about the changes I had made before I opened my mouth! (I have been spilling significant protein for 6 years plus now. And on the blood pressure front, it has generally dropped, although varies wildly. The Dr was not too worried about this, happy with the average result and realising that with 3.5 year old twin monkeys, sorry, I meant to say boys, that it will rise and fall throughout the day;)) This has really given me the encouragement I needed to step up a notch and carry on. I stopped drinking with the help of my GP (as I was in that habit that so many of us are … drinking to relax, and then once the bottle was opened, drinking too much … and I honestly didn’t think I could stop, but I did!) and am so grateful for that. It’s made everything else so much easier. I check in with your food chart quite a lot and I think right now I am about 65/35% alkaline to acid. We just took a holiday to Dorset where everything slipped, think fish and chips, lol, but as I said, this visit has given me the kick I needed to get back on track. I just want to say thankyou so much for taking the time to reply to my first email. It made all the difference to know you were rooting for me, and I really appreciate it. I’m seeing him again in 6 months, so I will be sure to give you an update. With Love, Molly X

Julie March 28, 2012 at 7:12 pm

Awe Molly…. this message gave me goose bumps! I’m so thrilled for you, this is the best news ever, you totally made my day! Congrats to you for all your hard work, it certainly paid off! It really is amazing how our body can heal when we give it what it really needs. I see you living a perfectly healthy life if you maintain this lifestyle and attitude. It’s a new lease on life don’t you think? Thank you so very much for sharing and posting your results so other readers can appreciate your story and your good news:)

Melissa April 11, 2012 at 9:20 am

Hello,
I am very interested in this for my mother and I as we have had some health issues. My mom (52) had breast cancer last year and this year she is suffering from bad allergies and a bad cough. The Dr. told her she has a slightly enlarged heart due to lymphedema. In 2008 I (29) had a fibroid in my uterus that was removed with surgery. So far I have not had any more problems. Right now I work as a secretary and I am struggling with very low energy and I am tired all the time!

I know that we need to make a big change. We have begun already, trying to cut out sugar, white flour and dairy. Eating whole grains, more fruits and veggies. I think the hardest thing for us is giving up meat. We love chicken, ground chicken and ground turkey. Where would be a good place for us to start?

admin June 8, 2012 at 9:30 pm

Melissa, my sincerest apologies, this comment became buried in the heaps. It’s been some time since you bravely said hello. I’m wondering how you and your mom are feeling now with some of the positive changes to your diet? You are totally on the right tract esp. with the sugar & dairy. I encourage reader to eat as much veggies as possible, raw or steamed, keep your high sugar fruits to a minimum and only enjoy your organic meats 2-3 times a week, moderation is a good thing here. With regards to cancer there are varying opinions to meat, if it were me I would eliminate it altogether, mostly because animals and humans tend to store environmental toxins, dioxins in particular, in their fatty tissue and these dioxins are not released, ever, unless you bear a child, at which time they are shed. These toxins are ingested when you consume animal meats as over 50% of the make up of meat (even lean cuts) is fat with only a small percentage of it being protein. These toxins won’t help keep cancer at bay, they could encourage it and this goes for butter, milk, cheese. Now I am getting picky here but when cancer is involved that’s when I think it’s appropriate to be so. It really is tough to imagine such a shift but it can be done bit by bit or kept to an extremely moderate amount. I say keep up the good work and move gradually as you may listening to your body and noticing, really noticing how you begin to feel. If I could add, juicing is amazing and can really take your health to the next level:) Please let me know how you and your mom are doing, I’d truly love to hear from you once again. Julie

Shara June 3, 2012 at 5:09 pm

Giod Afternoon,

I am SO excited to find someone who has the same passion of me! I have CML (Chronic Myleiod Leukemia) and for the first few months I did all I could along with doing some treatment from Spain. My WBC kept climbing. I hate to say but I have fallen into the medical monopoly. I hate meds and I never ever take them so this was a hard blow. They say Im suppose to take this TKI drug aka chemo pill for the rest of my life! I say they are nutty!! What do u suggest to do for a blood cancer? I follow David Wolfe a lot & kris Karr.

Many blessings,
Shara

admin June 3, 2012 at 11:10 pm

HI Shara, I commend you for having the strength and intuition to choose the high road without drugs, esp. lifetime drugs. You are brave and if I were you I’d be choosing the same journey. I highly recommend reading Dr. Robert O. Young’s pH miracle book for a very clear understanding of how alkalinity can assist in healing your blood, of which I can do no justice here in comparison to Dr. Young’s explanations. I am currently studying the Psychology of disease in nutrition school. If you haven’t explored this I highly recommend it. One of our books is very good, called ‘Why People Don’t Heal and how they can’ by Caroline Myss, Phd. This could be very helpful for you if you are open to energy healing, understanding chakras, effects of emotions etc. on ones health. It’s new to me but I find it fascinating and will be adopting this in my life for sure. All the best and please keep me posted as I am sincerely interested in hearing about your journey:)

Melissa June 8, 2012 at 10:54 pm

Thank you for writing back! I understand, I’m sure it’s hard to keep up on everything! We are doing much better, we have been gluten and dairy free for 2 months now and we have both lost weight and have more energy. I just recently bought a nice juicer but I’m having a hard time knowing what to juice. I have tried some veggie juices, but I have a hard time getting them down. So far we are making healthier choices, but I know we have a long way to go!

Lainie July 11, 2012 at 5:52 am

Hi ladies , I am wondering if you could tell me what the best alkaline strips are, I have bought 2 different kinds and they read opposite of each other. One says I’m in an alkaline state and the other reads I am close to an alkaline read . Help Thanks Lainie

admin July 11, 2012 at 11:48 pm

Hi Lainie Hmmm interesting. I usually use the ones by Greens + in a roll with measures from 5.5 – 8.0. For Saliva testing…. unless you are doing them simultaneously just know that your pH can change within 30 seconds of testing… immediately after consuming food and will continue to adjust for up to 10 mins or more but most in cases for the first 5 mins. Your alkaline buffers kick in when you eat acidic foods to compensate immediately, thus you might think you are high alkaline when you are actually acidic. Your urine will be a little less volatile in a short time frame. Watch for more info on a new tab under lifestyles with details on measuring your pH. I hope to post it soon.

Fiona August 11, 2012 at 2:27 pm

Hi there. I have been reading through all of the above comments and found that they all had some kind of pre disposed illness.. I am a fit & healthy 29yr old and basically want to live longer & have more energy plus clear skin.. I think more ppl should be interested in this as a preventative measure not a cure to an illness.. I have been reading about juise feasts and am also very interested in them.. Thanks you for sharing all your knowledge.. I am keen to get started on my path o better health!

julie August 12, 2012 at 11:27 pm

Fiona, I completely agree! When more and more people consider a healthy lifestyle a preventative measure for avoiding disease our world full of illness will shift dramatically. Momentum is building and it’s exciting to be a part of it. thx for your comment:)

Angela Hurst February 3, 2013 at 10:56 pm

Hi Julie,
I am 37 and just finished chemotherapy for stage 3c colon cancer. (My recent blood test and CT are clean!) I am also working with an ND who has recommended the Alkaline Diet. I would love HELP. I have 3 small children and a hubby whose resistant to diet changes but wants to help me. I’m not sure how to a. transition myself to this diet and still feed my family “normally” or b. get us all on board with this. I don’t even know where to begin with meal planning and grocery shopping etc. What is this Alkaline Coach you speak of?
Thank you!

Julie February 20, 2013 at 11:00 pm

Hi Angela, I highly suggest you start with this audio version of Dr. Young’s book to educate you and your husband too – easy to listen to at any time versus reading-in the car etc.- The pH Miracle. There is a complete program in the book and you can slowly transition the family to this. An alkaline coach is ideal if you can see them and have your blood done. I do have one reference, Jason, who does phone consults and home visits if necessary but you need to be ready to commit and have a budget for this. The first initial call is free to determine a good fit. With your diagnosis I would definitely suggest using Jason if it fits your budget. He’s amazing and can truly support you and help to guide your journey. Contact Jason here jason@vitallifegroup.com I am writing a book but you can’t wait for me! Let me know how you make out:)

Ana April 8, 2013 at 8:18 pm

Hi!

I’m one of those preventative people! 21 and just sort of obsessed with achieving “optimal health”. I want my skin to glow and my energy levels to stay sharp etc… I was skimming through the “Crazy Sexy Diet” and really began to understand the importance of alkaline eating. My struggle in getting started is how to know which foods are alkaline and which are acidic. I know you guys have a cheat sheet but I’ve seen a few different sources list different foods in different categories. This has me a little confused. Also, the pH scale goes from 0-14, but your food chart has numbers that don’t directly correspond. Can you clarify this? I can’t wait to really understand this! Your recipes look amazing, I already had the power smoothie this morning and it was delicious!

admin April 11, 2013 at 8:25 am

Ana, the pH Scale 0-14 is often referred to for the blood and body fluid pH levels and some food charts but is less accurate for food. The food in our chart from Dr. Young’s pH Miracle Book is measured upon the alkaline or acidic ash that it leaves behind in the body so this chart is very accurate as the molecular effects have been measured and calculated based on the metabolism of the food thus the varied degree in measures. This allows you to really see and zero in on the higher alkaline foods and also eat less of those that perhaps are neutral and acidic or completely avoid those that are highly acidic. The plus indicates alkaline the minus is for acidic. Hope this is clearer for you.

Rose Bisbee September 10, 2013 at 9:25 am

Hi, I have been doing the alkaline diet for one week now as I have a rotator cuff problem in my shoulder. I had an operation on it but did not take away the pain. I had been following it but add in 50g chicken a day and eat a hard boiled egg for breakfast otherwise i get shaky legs. I also eat fruit for breakfast. I make sure i drink two and a half litres of water a day. Unfortunately the pain is still as bad as ever, should I expect it to take a lot longer to take effect? I do eat lots of the vegetables throughout the day. Please help, the pain is sometimes unbearable. Thanks

Hi Rachel, I can completely sympathize as I have been here. Just know that veggies thru the day is very helpful but it isn’t enough to battle pain for you right now. You need drastic measures and a flooding of alkalinity to recitify this issue. I suggest the following: Drink 3-4 liters of greens powder in filtered (hopefully alkaline) water daily (this works amazingly) get these greens. If you can get a juicer, juice veggies every single day or blend them into a green smoothie- no fruit-just lime ginger mint and stevia to make it taste nice. Use these pHor salts 3-4x’s per day. And exercise often to flush the body’s fluids. Honestly this simple regime with all the veggies will make a HUGE difference and you should be out of pain in 4 to 8 or max 12 weeks. I was flat on my back and it was 12 weeks for me. It seemed like forever back then esp when I was in pain but it was the only way to make it go away FOREVER! Drugs won’t work, they just prolong it and provoke other issues. YOU CAN DO IT!

Do you think this will help me? I have scalp psoriasis and my hair breaks off faster than it grows and I would really like to turn the page with my hair. My scalp always feels burns or dehydrated and it’s always falling out. I’m hoping this will help clear up whatever is happening internally

Julie February 26, 2014 at 11:58 pm

Diana, most certainly I believe that your inner terrain is causing your issues. I can’t suggest enough that you go have live blood analysis done to see the real issues more visibly and understand some of the nutrients you may need to further supplement with. But for sure…working on your digestion and possibly reducing candida in your system with probiotics and a no sugar or carb diet may be really helpful for a while. A holistic nutritionist visit would be highly beneficial:) Keep me posted:)

Hi Julie!

I was diagnosed over one year ago with GERD and a weakened LES (Lower Esophageal Sphincter) with a one centimeter gap. I have been trying very hard to avoid prescription meds by trying just about every recommended natural supplement out there, as well as restricting all trigger foods from my diet. I have had some ups and downs, but over one year on, I am still dealing with almost daily symptoms, and am starting to worry about the potential state of my esophagus and future ramifications. I am very curious about the Alkaline Diet, but am also unsure, as protein is supposed to be a big part of my diet in order to help strengthen the LES. Do you know of anyone with a similar condition who has done the Alkaline Diet with success? Many thanks for your help!

Julie March 31, 2014 at 11:10 am

Hi Kelley, I believe that alkalizing your diet will help balance your body and return your health, no doubt here! I’m glad you have avoided meds as it is better to do so although it is tough to endure the discomfort. You have saved your body much assault by chemicals and acidic compounds. I suggest pHor salts on Innerlight.com to help alkalize and dump excess acids from your body and increasing your alkalinity to improve your digestion which will improve your digestive fluids. A holistic nutritionist or integrative doctor or naturopath is your best bet, one that is familiar with the alkaline lifestyle. Also read or listen to Dr Young’s book The pH Miracle and you will clearly understand the reason why we need to be pH balanced and how it can help you, you won’t regret it and it WILL change your life. All the best, you are on the exact right path!

Mandy April 5, 2014 at 9:48 am

Hello Julie! I am 18 and I have sweaty palms and sweaty feet ever since I was a kid and now I suffer from a yeast infection and fungal feet infection on my toes nails too. I recently wanted to change my diet to help me feel less stressed and less depressed, but it seems really hard to find foods everywhere the are organic because they are very expensive, I still live with my mom which she thinks I’m a picky eater. I’ve tried apple cider vinegar which helps and I am currently trying a yeast / fungal detox supplements but it keeps coming back and leaving I can’t find my problem. I would love to hear some advice from you to see what you think. Thank you for posting this great article!

Julie April 5, 2014 at 10:03 am

Mandy, I’m sooo glad you landed here, I know I can help and so can this alkaline lifestyle. Please Please read or get the audio of The pH Miracle by Dr. Robert O. Young and you will then totally understand how to rectify your problem for good!! It will save you a life time of agony that you don’t need to suffer! It totally explains the yeast issue most of us suffer from and help you get really clear on how to balance these organisms. It can take some time but it is totally doable! I also highly suggest you see a live blood analysis who is inline with alkalizing the body and this will show you the health of your blood on a computer screen- very clearly the yeast and fungus in your system and also help you see the progress of eliminating it as it is right before your eyes.
Keep up the detox but toss the apple cider vinegar (it’s full of yeast, fungus and mold cuz it’s fermented!) and use probiotics instead, the best you can afford!
You are on the best journey you can be with this lifestyle as your guide. But do your darndest to be almost 100% alkaline for a few months til this passes. I also suggest Candidase, an enzyme that helps minimize the fall out of the dye off of candida organism which can be counter productive making you crave what you shouldn’t have- these enzymes eat up the mess they leave that saves you from other symptoms.
You can also do a cleanse on the phone with approved coaches of Dr. Robert O. Young. here http://www.phmiraclecleanse.com/ They also do privates too. It’s worth every penny. I may be doing some coaching eventually but not quite yet. All the best to you, I know you can beat this. Take responsibility for your health and don’t let your parents make you feel any way you don’t want to feel. You are in control! Do your best with organics, try to avoid the dirty dozen and scrub the others the best you can til you can afford the ideal. Go to farmers markets or plant a garden. Your future depends on it:)
Please keep me posted, I want to hear how you are doing. and hollar with any further questions:)

Hi Julie,

I am so excited to have found your site – the recipes especially! I’m 21 and I suffer from Rosacea – I take a lot of medication to keep it down but I still suffer from temperamental skin that is always pink and sometimes very red and inflamed, and I would like to come off the meds eventually. Right now I take fish oil pills, try to eat salad everyday, etc, but I don’t think it’s enough. I’ve read a lot about how an alkaline diet can help with rosacea but I’m just so stressed about making the lifestyle work for me, especially because rosacea cuts out a lot of things that would be good for such a diet. I live in a tiny appt. in Boston and I don’t have a ton of resources, either, which makes things even more daunting! But I’m willing to do whatever it takes to feel better about myself, both inside and outside. What’s the most important thing I could start eating/drinking to help me at least a little? Would you recommend signing up for a juice cleanse?

It makes me so happy to have a place where I can find support and understanding! Thank you for doing what you’re doing 🙂

Allie

Allie, so glad you are ready to commmitt to healing. A juice feast would be a great place to jumpt start your journey. Then carrying on with 80% -90% alkaline foods (mostly veggies) each day for at keast 30 days with lots of clean filtered water. even an inexpensive filter is better than none. I suggest phor salts and supergreen daily from either innerlight.com or phmiracleliving.com
I truly believe you can overcome this. it may be discipline thats needed now but you will find your groove and it WILL be worth it!!
Adding green smoothies to your mornings is a great way to avoid cravings later in the day. all the best, keep me posted:)

Tracy Kidd October 15, 2014 at 1:57 am

Hi Julie, I have found your site a very interesting read. I am like Allie, who posted about Rosacea, i have recently been diagnosed with this and currently on medication. My skin is itchy dry and honestly feel like i have just aged 10 years solely from my skin. But i have been reading up about my body being alkaline in order to manage this. So i have just been to a healthy living shops and got fish oils, tumeric, evening primrose, olive leaf, inner health, liquid chlorophyll and bio green super food to add to green smoothies. So i am taking the first steps. I was wondering should i be eating chicken and salmon? I have read different things from different sites. Hoping you can as i am not a vegetarian. Also As with Allie, do you think i should go on a juice feast to jump start or just start with the diet? Any help with be greatly appreciated, thanks

Also Allie i was just wondering what creams you use for your face for Rosacea?

Julie October 20, 2014 at 9:36 pm

Hi Tracy, you are doing just what you should be and yes a feast would be perfect way to jump start your journey. If you enjoy chicken and salmon try for only 1-2 x’s a week of the best organic/wild meat you can find to avoid all the hormones and antibiotics and gmo corn feed. Meat is acidic so less is better but up to a max of 20% on your plate. Enjoy lentils and quinoa and other plant based proteins like edamamme etc instead. All the best to you:)

Sara April 23, 2015 at 8:59 am

Hello,

I’m hoping to get some answers from your site! I’m 22 and have been dealing with plantar fasciitis for over 4 months! It came out of nowhere in both feet and is so acute I can’t grocery shop or do chores around the house without acute pain. Keep in mind that until this injury I was hiking, biking, skiing, etc, and in general very active and healthy. I’ve gone thru all the typical western treatment (orthotics, splint, etc) with no success.I recently discovered that this could be plantar fasciosis, a degenerative circulatory issue, an am starting the alternative treatment, but also discovered the possibility that it could be an ph problem. Do you have any thoughts on this? I also suffer from very frequent UTIs and back pain so I wonder if this is further evidence of a ph imbalance.

Julie May 10, 2015 at 7:53 am

Sarah
A pH imbalance which is an acidic body = any and every dis-ease!

Regain your alkalinity and you will be well! I suggest live blood analysis to also identify nutrient deficiencies and a hair analysis.
you can heal yourself!!

see http://www.phmiracleliving.com for resource directory for blood microscopists around the world. and do the veggie feast and then alkalize your diet near 95-100% and you can regain your health. Use alakaline phor salts too!! and greens powders from grasses not algaes.

all my best.

Hey Julie,
Just wanted to drop by and thank you for the article. I’ve mentioned you on my site a couple times now and recently linked to you on my article showing how multiple psoriasis and eczema sufferers were able to get relief from their diseases by alkalizing their bodies.

http://www.livingphit.com/alkaline-diet-eczema-and-psoriasis-skin/

(the link to you is in the part about needing to eat a diet that’s 70-80% alkaline)

Thanks for being an awesome resource and keep up the good work.

Angie Stoner February 18, 2016 at 5:33 pm

Hello Julie,
I am ready to start. Tbe books you suggested are in my Amazon cart 😉 My question is this: I am a happy 42 year old woman, but I am frustrated by the medical profession. I had (have) severe endometriosis which, sadly, ended with a complete hysterectomy at 35. So, I am constantly having hormone balance issues. I NEVER struggled with my weight, even after babies, but now I have 40 extra pounds. My main health issue is chronic kidney stones (approx 1 a month or more) and UTIs. Now I have painful joints in my feet, but I dont want to call it gout. So ugly. As you can imagine I have been to many doctors. They just want to stick me on more & more drugs. The side effects are ridiculous. And I feel just, yucky. I have 2 healthy active kids and a hubby who I want to be sexy for! I am active, too, but I want to feel better!
Have you seen kidneys become healthier with an Alkaline diet?
I would love, love to lose the weight, but exercising regularly and eating healthy 80% of the time aren’t making a dent.
Any advice while I wait on my books would be so appreciated!!
Thank you!
Angie
