Petite Slaw of Celeriac, Broccoli Sprouts, Meyer Lemon & Thyme – Guest Post @ Golubka

by Julie on April 22, 2012

Happy Earth Day!  I hope you found a special way to appreciate our planet and do your little bit to make a difference.  I’m so grateful for the sunshine that is making more of an appearance these days and for the fresh bright clean air that we have to breath.  We did more walking than driving today as our part to be kinder to the planet and hope to continue with this when ever we can.

Today is a special day for me as I was asked to inspire the readers over at Golubka, a wonderful healthy food blog that I have been following pretty much since it began. I feel honoured that Anya asked me to help with some recipe posting as they are extra busy with a project.  But the great thing is that you too can enjoy the recipe that I created by clicking this link and sneaking over to Golubka for some pretty visuals and a delicious creation.

While you’re there, perhaps take a peek at some of their archived recipes. The photography is stunning and the ideas are unique and look very tasty.

As for recipes here, I’m missing being here and missing the creative juices that keep me alive and inspired!  But….. I do have a few posts up my sleeve for you and will do my best to write and post them soon, I promise…. in between my Professional Practice course and my Sports Nutrition class.  I’m getting there, only 3 more months of nutrition school left!  Phew!

Have a wonderful week and I’ll be back here soon:)

Julie! Every post just gets more and more fantastic. Everything from your photos, to your knowledge, to your writing, is always just better and better 🙂

I’m proud to be learning with you in school, and seriously grateful to know of your blog. It keeps me excited about food and cooking. Any day when I’m at a total loss for something to cook I know I can stop by this site and be inspired to keep on trekkin’ towards wellness <3

Mmmm I love that the bloggers I love love each other too! 🙂
Quick question: I thought walnuts weren’t alkaline? (delicious and protein and omega-3 packed, but not alkaline 🙁 I’m happy to see you eating them so does that mean I can too if I’m aiming for a very alkaline diet (healing from an illness) ? Thanks! (Also while I’m here, do you lovely ladies know what to do with amaranth? I’ve only seen recipes for it in porridges, looking for some savory lunch/dinner ideas for it since it’s so good for you, I know I should be eating more of it, but can’t figure out what to do with it! A recipe à la les soeurs Alkaline (the Alkaline Sisters, doesn’t everything sound better in French? 😉 Also loving this guest post idea, maybe we can translate one of your recipes on Happycrulture.com – would LOVE it! Anything raw and alkaline would be amazing!! Bisous from Paris!! Can’t wait to try your latest recipe!

Hey Rebecca, how are you?? Glad to hear from you! Yes walnuts are slightly acidic but guess what? In this alkaline lifestyle we shoot for a balance of 70-80% alkaline with 20-30% acidic, so you CAN have acidic foods that are nutritious! So eat some walnuts…. please! They are good for you but of course in a good ratio. If you are very chronically ill of course you cleanse with a feast and then eat as alkaline as possible to cleanse the toxins say for 2-3 months – it’s individual- but then return to a good balance of more like the 80/20 when you begin to see improvements. I haven’t done too much with it, just tossed it with sauteed veggies and herbs. You can also cook it separate from other grains as cooking times are different and them mix them up say with Farro (need to soak) or whole spelt. Cheers:)
Ps I’m swamped right now for guest posts, can hardly post on my blog but maybe in the fall:)
